RECOVERY PSYCHOLOGY ON WIKIVERSITY
"If a tree falls on the internet and nobody hears it..."
There is a big misunderstanding regarding the publication of "a book." Referring to Recovery Psychology as a book, does recovery a diservice. The ideas conveyed in the book are more important than the book. A book is a material object. Many persons ask about the book, and they are told go online and see it. As the innovator of this concept, I have recieved various comments regarding this work. Mostly, I can compare the discussion to that of persons who do not play basketball or even really care about basketball taking cheap jabs at a person who is serious about playing basketball for a career. I on the other hand am not in to basketball, I am a student and professional researching recovery from psychological disorders in the context of clinical psychology.
Please, serious inquiries only!
The following are qoutes from emails I have recieved from very prominent impressive authorities, whom are very well known. I guess I have to wait until I get my PhD before I will get their premission to publish their real names online next to their qoutes. They know who they are, I know who they are. I am looking forward to publishing more.
1.(on positive psychology)...which recovery psychology seems to address perfectly. There seems to be good synergy in a more opportunistic, as opposed to diagnosing/abnormal, type of psychology between the two---Identity witheld 06.05.07
2.(on web site) Hello! Your web site is wonderful thanks. How do you join..? I am a psychologist in Los Angeles with a "your never going to be able to do much" diagnosis (schizophrenia); I am in recovery and working full time as a psychologist (clinical but unlicensed). Luckily, I am able to train other clinicians in the basics of recovery as well as peer specialists. Today is the first day of the monthly presentation to very resistant...psychologists. Some know my diagnosis, some don't. Do I disclose to them to illustrate recovery? I don't think so, they'd never see me as a psychologist. Hopefully, that will change. Wish me luck!---Identity witheld 01.16.08
3.(on abnormal psychology)...I cringe everytime psychology students visit my peer support meetings and talk about their "abnormal psychology" classes---Identity witheld 01.21.08
4.(on clinical and abnormal psychology)...there needs to be a change in clinical psychology classes in the academic setting; recovery psychology can be an alternative equivalent to abnormal psychology or the final fulfillment of clinical psychology (goal of helping.) Yes, you understand it perfectly. Now if we can just help others to see the whole picture.---Identity witheld 01.23.08
5.(on recovery)...You have been doing a lot of very good work---Identity witheld 02.06.08
6.(on recovery psychology) I've read your web page and am happy that psychology is finally taking a leading role in recovery---Identity witheld 02.23.08
